Derek Dixie, born and raised in Youngstown OH, is a music director and music producer with over 25 years experience in the studio, live concerts and theater. He is persistent with a fresh drive for success and emits an unrivaled work ethic. Derek’s resume is a testament to his commitment to proper interpretation and execution in all aspects of music. 

Derek, is a Wilson High School class of 2000 graduate and attended Youngstown State University where he studied under Dr.Glenn Shaft as a percussion major. He then attended The Recording Workshop where he completed his Production and Engineering certification. After graduation, Derek won an internship and eventually became a full time instructor. There, he honed his production expertise and sharpened his skills as a musician, composer, and engineer. Derek has had substantial preparation in computer-driven audio production environments and ample experience in managing sonic clarity, dynamics, imaging and spectral balance. Additionally, he is experienced in Sound for Picture, Radio and Advertising Spots and all short-format film scoring.

Derek is a multi Grammy Award Nominee as well as an Emmy Nominee in the category of Outstanding Music Direction for Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé.  Over the last decade, Derek's catalog of work as Music Director has made a historical impact in the music world as he was able to transform exciting ideas and inspiration into fully executed concepts and presentation. 

As Music Director for both the 2013 and 2016 Super Bowl Halftime Shows, “America The Beautiful” at the 2019 Super Bowl with Chloe and Halle, leading the Pre-game show for the 2025 Super Bowl through The Freedom Frequency Orchestra, multiple World Tours, and a music producer on a host of award winning albums including Album Of The Year, Cowboy Carter, Derek’s resume continues to expand. 

He is working on an exciting collection of new projects involving healing and sonic immersion. As the MD & Founder of The Freedom Frequency Orchestra, Derek's vision is to build a musical empire and legacy that inspires a fresh generation of creators and musical minds that will serve to inject positive energy, Frequency and Light into the world.
